Aim
To impart knowledge on operational research in terms of linear programming application to optimization, transportation and game theory, project scheduling and decision theory.
- LINEAR PROGRAMMING TECHNIQUES: 10
Graphical and Simplex solution for maximizing and minimizing problems – A case of degeneracy in Simplex method – Post optimality analysis, Sensitivity Analysis, Parametric programming – Revised Simplex problem – primal / dual relationship – Goal programming
- LINEAR PROGRAMMING EXTENSIONS: 15
Transportation problem – North / West corner Solution, stepping stone method, Vogel’s approximate method, Modi method – Degeneracy, imbalance matrix. Assignment model: Branch and Bound Technique, Hungarian method,Trans-shipment problem, Travelling salesmen problem.
3. INTEGER LINEAR PROGRAMMING / GAME THEORY 9
Branch and bound Algorithm, Cutting plane algorithm, the fractional Algorithm, the mixed algorithm, zero-one Integer problem techniques – the additive algorithm, zero-one polynomial programming. Two person – zero sum games: Graphical and L.P. Solutions.
4. DYNAMIC PROGRAMMING AND PROJECT SCHEDULING: 15
Dynamic programming models: Deterministic case. Maximization and Minimization problem. Use of the D.P. techniques to solve the L.P. problems. C.P.M. and P.E.R.T. for Project Scheduling. Resource levelling, crashing, Resource planning.
5. DECISION THEORY: 6
Decision under risk, Decision trees, Decision under uncertainty. Use of Simulation technique for decision making. Case studies for the use of Simulation techniques for decision making. Optimal Simulation run.
