TELECOMMUNICATION SWITCHING SYSTEMS AND NETWORKS JNTU previous years question papers

TELECOMMUNICATION SWITCHING SYSTEMS AND NETWORKS JNTU previous years question papers
Time: 3 hours Max Marks: 80
Answer any FIVE Questions
All Questions carry equal marks

1. (a) What are the different source specific telecommunication networks? Explain.
(b) An electrical communication system uses a channel that has 20dB loss. Estimate the received power, if the transmitted power is one watt?
(c) What is the significance of S/N ratio being -3dB? [8+4+4]

2. (a) Give general expression for blocking probability and implementation complexity of a TST switch?
(b) Calculate the number of trunks that can be supported on a time multiplexed space switch given that the control memory access time is 50 ns. Bus switching and transfer time is 50 ns per transfer for
i. T-1 trunks
ii. E-1 trunks. [8+8]

3. (a) Explain about direct inward dialing facility for PABXs.
(b) Explain about charging plan for telecommunication services. [8+8]

4. (a) What are the different forms of signaling involved in telecommunication networks? Explain.
(b) A telephone conversation is routed through four switching systems. Compare the times required to establish the call in the case of inchannel signaling and CCS Systems given that Circuit switching time between exchanges = 2 s
Signalling time between exchanges = 0.2 s
Dialing time = 8 s
Circuit links can be set up in parallel in the case of CCS. [8+8]

5. (a) Explain point to point and Multipoint data communication circuit configurations.
(b) What are the merits and demerits of serial and parallel data transmission.
(c) Explain basic concepts of connection oriented and connectionless protocols.[6+4+6]

6. (a) Draw the block diagram of PSDN and explain each block.
(b) Compare connection oriented communication and connection less communication.

7. (a) Discuss interactive and distributed services of BISDN.
(b) What are the principles and objectives of ISDN.
(c) Draw the structure of ISDN and explain transmission rates supported. [5+5+6]

8. Write brief note on the following
(a) Virtual tributaries.
