The eye, the brain and the perception of colour – mechanism of colour vision, colour vision theories, defects of colour vision – colour vision tests – additive and subtractive colour mixing – confusion in colour perception. Beer’s Law, Lambert’s Law and Kubelka and Munk’s simplified model of theory of interaction of matter and radiation.
2. COLOUR ORDER SYSTEMS 9
Description of colour, various colour order systems. The CIE system and its components – the illuminants, the standard observer and the chromacity diagram.
3. COLOUR MATCHING 9
Reflectance curves of dyed samples, the application of the Kubelka-Munk theory to colour matching – Techniques of computer colour matching – prediction of colour recipe – limitations of computer colour matching.
4. METAMERISM 3
Illuminant metamerism, observer metamerism, geometric metamerism, assessment of metamerism, metamerism in textiles.
5. Colour Difference Measurements and Colour Assessment in Textiles 9
Visual colour assessment, variables, standard conditions and methods of visual assessment and evaluation. Instrumental colour assessement – colour difference equations and measurements – pass fail standards.
