1. a) Explain the working principle of operation of an Alternator. (6) b) A 3 phase 16 pole alternator has star connected winding with 144 slots and 10 conductors per slot. The flux per pole is 0.03Wb. sinusoidally distributed and the speed is 375 rpm. Find the frequency, phase emf and line emf. Assume full pitched coil. (6)
2. a) Explain the working principle of a synchronous motor with neat diagram. (6) b) Discuss the effect of excitation on armature current and power factor of a synchronous motor. (6)
3. a) Explain the constructional details of squirrel cage rotor of a 3 phase induction motor with neat diagram. (6) b) The power input to the rotor of 400 volts, 50Hz, 6 poles, 3 phase induction motor is 75kw.
