About the University of Kannur

Kannur University was founded in 1996 for the development of higher education in Kasaragod, Kannur and Wayanad districts of Kerala, was established after the promulagation India.It Law Decree 22 of 1996 Assembly Kerala University, whose name is “Malabar University” had been born earlier promulgaton the order, the Governor of Kerala, November 9, 1995.

Kannur University was inaugurated March 2, 1996 by the Hon. The Chief Minister of Kerala. The main objective of the Kannur University Act, 1996 was established in the state of Kerala a teaching, residential and join the University to ensure the development of higher education in Kasargod and Kannur revenue Districts and Taluk of Wayanad District Mananthavady.

Kannur University is unique because it is a multi-campus university with campuses located in different places under their jurisdiction. The law states that the University must establish, maintain, manage and develop campuses at Kannur, Kasargod, Mananthavady, Payyannur, Thalassery, Kanhangad and other places that are needed to provide the means of study and research to foster advances in science knowledge and technology and other relevant disciplines.
