Answer ALL questions
PART A (10 x 2 =20 marks)

1. What is the need for burried layer in fabrication of monolithic integrated transistor?

2. Differentiate between thin film and thick film technology in IC fabrication.

3. Determine the input impedance of 741 operational amplifier employed as voltage follower having Av = 50,000 and Ri = 0.3 M Ω.

4. Define slew rate. What is its significance?

5. Sketch the circuit of an op-amp employed as, a non-inverting zero crossing detector, alog with input and output waveforms.

6. List any four important application of a comparator.

7. What are the different stages of operation in a PLL?

8. A 10 bit A/D converter has an input voltage of - 10 to + 10 v. Find the resolution.

9. Draw the circuit of LM317 voltage regulator, give the expression for Vo.

10. What is the need for current limiting in regulated power supplies?

PART B (5 x 16 = 80)

11 (a) (i) With neat sketches the various types of integrated resistors. (8)
(ii) Give the cross-sectional view of the intergrated circuit for the circuit given below and list the processes involved. (8)
(or)
(b) (i) Discuss the different ways to fabricate diodes. (10)

(ii) Explain the process of masking and photo etching in IC fabrication. (6)

12. (a) (i) Define input bias current and state its effect on op Amp performance. Explain how input bias current compensation obtained.
(ii) Design a pratical differentiator circuit that will differentiate an input signal with maximum frequency of 150 Hz.
(or)
(b) (i) Explain the concept of frequency compensation and discuss any one external compensation technique. (8)

(ii) Design a OP Amp circuit to give an output (8)

V0 = V1– 2 V2 + 2 V3 – 3 V4.

13 (a) (i) Draw the circuit of monostable multivibrator and obtain expression for pulse width T. (8)
(ii) Explain the R-2R ladder type D/A converter. (8)
(or)
(b) With circuit diagrams explain the following applications of OP Amp.

(i) V/I converter and its application (5)

(ii) S/H circuit (5)

(iii) Flash Type A/D Converter. (6)

14. (a) (i) Explain the operation of PLL. (10)
(ii) Discuss the application of PLL as frequency synthesizer. (6)
(or)
(b) (i) List the important features of 555 timer. (6)

(ii) Brifly explain the differences between the two operating modes of 555 timer. (10)

15. (a) (i) Discuss the internal structure of 723 voltage regulator. (8)
(ii) What are features of LM 380 power amplifier? With a schematic explain its application as high gain audio power amplifier. (8)
(or)
(b) (i) Write a note on isolation amplifier. (8)

(ii) Draw the circuit diagram and explain the operation of any one negative voltage regulator.(8)
