CBSE to Add Mass Media Course from 2012

Mass media will soon get new exposure, at school level. Keeping in mind the popularity and growing demand of mass media, Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), New Delhi, is planning to introduce it as a vocational course at Senior Secondary (XI & XII) level from the next academic session 2012.
Mass media would be launched as an elective paper and taught as a vocational stream. Books will be printed and made available from July 2012. A course in mass media was included in the curriculum of some schools in Delhi, Mumbai and Pune last year on the pilot basis to enable the students to get a basic understanding of the subject on the whole.
The idea of introducing mass media at school level was initiated and conceptualized by Caitanya Chinchilkar, Vice-President, Business Development, Whistling Woods International (WWI). To materialize the plan, Chinchilkar collaborated with CBSE to provide the right training and knowledge of the course.
Chinchilkar further added that schools should be equipped with computer labs, handy cams, and other essential equipment for the successful conduct of mass media course, along with well trained and experienced academicians. To provide the apt awareness and information about the subject, language teachers will be given special training at WWI.
Showman Subhash Ghai, Founder and Chairman of WWI informed that the mass media and entertainment industry is always on a hunt for talented and qualified individuals. The fundamentals can be embedded only at early stages, he clarified. Therefore, the course will enable students to identify their capabilities and improve their creative minds and artistic sense, he concluded
